Self Directed Support (SDS)

Giving you choice and control over how care and support is arranged.

What Self-Directed Support Aims to Do

Self-Directed Support is designed to ensure that support is:

  • Personalised — built around the child or young person’s needs, strengths and goals.
  • Flexible — able to change as the child’s situation changes.
  • Rights‑based — respecting dignity, choice and involvement in decision‑making.
  • Consistent and high‑quality — supported by national Self-Directed Support Standards for practice across Scotland.
