Cemetery Park paths

East Lothian Council, working with Ardent Consulting Engineers and Oobe Landscape Architects, is working on a more accessible, welcoming, and biodiverse space for Cemetery Park, Prestonpans that supports health, wellbeing, and a stronger connection to nature for the local community. Proposals include the creation of new paths and the widening and resurfacing of existing routes to improve access for visitors and members of the local community. Bollards will be introduced to paths from the West and North to slow cyclists, and prevent unauthorised vehicle access.

The proposals include introducing wildflower meadow, allowing some areas of grass to grow long, and planting a variety of trees, including fruit trees, to provide both varied amenity spaces and support wildlife. Informal play elements like logs and boulders, along with new seating, picnic tables, and information boards, will encourage relaxation, play, and community use. Rain gardens will help manage surface water while enhancing planting variety and biodiversity.

The first phase of these works is likely to be completed in 2026.
