Employers - support available from East Lothian Works

Every employer will have different needs and we know that navigating through lots of information and online resources can feel confusing and frustrating. Through our Employer Offer, we can support you by email or phone with a range of advice and services.

Our East Lothian Works and Economic Development teams are working together with Edinburgh College, Skills Development Scotland and the Department for Work and Pensions. This unique partnership provides a 'one stop shop' support for all your needs, from staffing to skills development.

Training, upskilling and reskilling

We offer a flexible and needs led service. If you have an employee or a group of employees who would like to gain confidence and improve their work based literacy, numeracy and IT skills, East Lothian Works can help. Our support could include: help towards getting a work based qualification, report writing, work related numeracy or basic IT skills.

We also offer support to individuals with dyslexia and those for whom English is a second language.

Funding

East Lothian Works can offer support with funding for both employers and those looking for/in work, including (but are not limited to):

  • Employer Recruitment Incentive - funding for employers that recruit individuals with barriers into employment - including long term unemployed people
  • No One Left Behind - in work training grant for employers recruiting an individual with a barrier to employment
  • Paid Work Experience  - an opportunity for employers to give an individual who needs support to move into work, a paid work experience opportunity - funding and employability support is provided by East Lothian Works
  • Parental Employability Support Fund - support for parents in work to upskill and retrain

Support with recruitment and vacancies

We can promote vacancies with our wide range of partners - including sifting and pre-screening candidates and arranging and managing interview schedules.

We can provide facilities for interviews or meetings.

We can support your employees, who are looking to apply for promotion within your company, with applications, interview skills, CVs and mock interviews.

Redundancy/Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE)

PACE is the Scottish Government's initiative for supporting people dealing with redundancy. The PACE team respond quickly when redundancy situations arise and can provide free, confidential advice to help your employees with their next steps including: helping them to understand their rights and entitlements, checking what benefits they may be entitled to, offering practical advice on getting a new job and identifying learning and training opportunities.

The partnership includes a number of organisations including Skills Development Scotland (Lead), Department of Work and Pensions, local authorities, Citizens Advice, HMRC, ACAS and colleges.
