Dangerous wild animals

The Act aims to protect the public and ensure that animals are properly cared for and the licence must be applied for before taking ownership of the animal.  The Act does not apply to animsals kept in zoos, circuses or pet shops.

Applicants must be over 18, must not be disqualified from keeping dangerous wild animals and must have current insurance that covers the applicant (and any others named on the licence) against liability for any damage caused by the animals.

How to apply

Officers from the Environmental Health team will inspect your premises to make sure that animals are being kept in suitable conditions. A veterinarian inspection my also be required and the cost of this will be payable by the applicant, in addition to the licence fee.
