What is an Empty Home?
A long term empty home is one that has been vacant 6 months or more. Owners of empty homes may be looking for advice and guidance on dealing with their property, or a property may be causing problems for nearby residents. Bringing them back into use can increase housing supply, improve communities and contribute to regeneration. If you own an empty property or wish to report one you can contact the Empty Homes Advice Service.
The Empty Homes Advice Service can:
- Provide first level empty homes advice to empty home owners, neighbours and organisations interested in empty homes work
- Follow up on empty homes reports and pursue empty homes case work in areas without a local empty homes service
- Provide information on where empty homes grants and loans are available throughout the country and link into local Empty Homes Matchmaker Schemes
- Provide assistance right through the process until the project is delivered
If you want to buy empty properties in East Lothian, you can apply to have your details put on to the Matchmaker Scheme.
